Reading Teachers

Ms. Norma Vargas

6th Grade Reading/Language Arts DL

Howdy! My name is Norma Vargas, and I am a 6th grade bilingual teacher. I have my bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in bilingual education, and I am currently doing my masters in Early Childhood Psychology. I am excited about getting to work with my students and learn from them as much as they will learn from me. I believe all students come into the classroom with the potential to do great things, and it is up to their educators to push them to success. I believe all students deserve teachers that are always willing to improve and learn in order to offer great instruction.

Ms. Diana Melendez

Reading Language Arts

I was born and raised in Dallas. My family is from Chihuahua, Mexico, and I am a first generation college student. I attended Dallas ISD Schools and graduated from Skyline High School.  I received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin in Government and Spanish.  I also have a Masters in Business from Dallas Baptist University. I have 22 years of teaching experience at the middle school level and 5 years of teaching at The School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove. Over the course of my experience, I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade Reading Language Arts. My goal in teaching is to prepare my students to be lifelong learners and to always encourage a growth mindset in all that they do. I really enjoy teaching at TAG in PG, and I am encouraged to see all of the growth of our students from year to year.

Mr. Connor Cabaniss

-7th Grade Reading/Language Arts        -World Cultures

Hello friends and family! My name is Mr. Connor Cabaniss, and I am beyond grateful to be part of the educational team here at TAG@PG.

I was born and raised in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I then attended the University of South Carolina where I earned my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice.

I always had a dream of supporting young people and passing on what was so freely given to me. My previous teachers, professors, and role models that inspired me to be the best version of myself fueled my drive to do the same for others. I then enrolled in the Dallas ISD Alternative Certification Program, where I have received great training to not only support our students in an educational environment, but also to be a personal support system to foster growth.

I live by these core values and try to instill them into all of my students: Accountability, Commitment, Discipline, Integrity, Perseverance, and Structure.

While not at school, I enjoy watching and playing sports, hanging out with my partner and cat, as well as finding new places to eat! I am excited for what this year has in store!
